About Us

HearSay Speech & Hearing Centre opened in 2005, and is a family run speech-language pathology and audiology facility owned by Yvonne and Rui Oliveira. They reside in the town of Milton where they are parents of 3 beautiful daughters, Jasmine, Maya, and Chloe. The staff at HearSay are all trained to treat you with respect, and to give you and your family the professional attention needed to address your speech and hearing health care needs.

 

Yvonne M. Oliveira
is a dually certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist. Having completed her undergraduate degree in the areas of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at California State University, Chico she then proceeded to complete both the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Masters degrees concurrently at the University of Western Ontario where she graduated in 1998 (SLP) and 1999 (Aud.). She spent a number of years working in the educational setting within a specialized hearing impaired program which facilitated the use of Auditory-Verbal therapy. Yvonne is a certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist (Cert. AVT) and works in conjunction with VOICE for Hearing Impaired Children, Halton/Peel Chapter where she works on speech, language and listening goals with hearing impaired children and adults. She is involved in mentoring Teachers of the Deaf in the philosophies of auditory verbal therapy across the Halton and Peel district school boards.

Yvonne teaches college-level audiology courses for the Communicative Disorders Program at Durham College in Oshawa.  She provides assessment and therapy in the areas of articulation, apraxia, oral motor disorders, language, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders such as autism, global delay, mutism, and literacy.  She has specific training in areas of early language where she has Hanen Certification for “It Takes Two to Talk,” and holds PROMPT (PROMPTs for Restructuring Oral Musculature Phonetic Targets) Level 1 Certification, as well as being trained in the use of Phoneme Touch and Say.

 

Rui M. Oliveira
is a certified Audiologist and completed his Master of Clinical Science degree at the University of Western Ontario. Rui provides hearing assessments, hearing aid evaluations, and re-checks, as well as fittings, individual counseling, and earmold impressions. Rui can both prescribe and dispense hearing aids in accordance with the practice guidelines set out by the Canadian Audiology and Speech Language Pathology Association of Ontario (CASLPO).  He is certified through the Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA).

Rui works in conjunction with Dr. Aimee Mabini, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist in the Halton region where he provides testing and counselling to children through to adults.  Rui’s clinical philosophy is one of individualized care and attention with a personal touch for all clients who seek care at the HearSay Speech & Hearing Centre.

 

Nancy N. Oliveira
received an Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences degree, from University of Western Ontario in 2002. She then went on to receive her Masters of Health Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Toronto in 2005. She is registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), as well as being a member of CASLPA (Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologists).

Nancy is also currently employed with The Scarborough General Hospital in Scarborough, where she provides speech therapy for children with a variety of communicative challenges.  She has experience working with school-aged and adult populations in the areas of speech and language development, articulation/phonology, stuttering and voice disorders. She has specific training in the Lidcombe program and the Comprehensive Stuttering program approaches to stuttering, she is Hanen certified for ”It Takes Two to Talk”, she holds PROMPT (Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) level I certification, and has experience with PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).

 

Brittany Rickard
is a Speech-Language Pathologist registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). She began working at HearSay as a Communicative Disorders Assistant in 2008, where she gained therapy experience with children and school-age clients. In pursuit of her passion for the field, Brittany left to complete her Master of Science degree at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA. Three years later, Brittany was very pleased to return to the HearSay team as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

During her master’s degree, Brittany specialized in assessing and treating school and university-level students with reading, writing and language disorders. She has conducted research at the college-level and presented posters at the American Speech-Lanuage-Hearing Association conventions in 2010 and 2011. Brittany also gained intensive training and experience in a residential aphasia program where she discovered a passion for working with clients with aphasia and their loved ones. Other areas of interest and experience include stuttering, articulation, phonology, and early language development.

 

Krista McCrea
is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA)
and graduated from Georgian College in 2007. Her interest in speech and language developed during her Honours Bachelor of Sport and Physical Education degree while attending Laurentian University. Krista has experience working with children on a variety of speech and language goals including articulation, literacy and language. In addition, she has specific training in Phoneme Touch & Say. Krista enjoys working with children and young adults both individually and in small groups.

 

 

 

 

Amanda Vandenbogaard
is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) and graduated from Durham College. Her interest in speech and language developed while completing her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Western Ontario, with a focus on sociology and psychology. Amanda enjoys working with both preschool and school-age children individually and in small groups. She has experience working with children on a range of speech and language goals including language, articulation, phonological awareness and early literacy.

 

 

 

 

 

Kamila Kulpa
is our Office Administrative Assistant and a valuable member of our team. She studied at Humber and Algonquin College until 2009. With her years of healthcare experience, Kamila cares for the well-being of others, and is responsible for performing and coordinating office administrative duties as well as being helpful to our clients.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Monica Lamb   (currently on maternity leave)
is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) and graduated from Durham College. She comes to the HearSay team as a former Elementary School teacher with experience in both  the mainstream and special education classrooms. It was here that she developed an interest in speech and language therapy, aural rehabilitation and early intervention. Monica has experience working with preschool and school-aged populations in the areas of speech and language development, articulation/phonology, social skills, literacy and aural rehabilitation. Monica thoroughly enjoys working with children of all ages both individually and in small groups as well as working with families in parent-child language training. She is a member of CASLPA (Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologists) and OCT (Ontario College of Teachers).
