*NEW* SPEECH, LANGUAGE & READING PROGRAMS

STARTING MAY 7th, 2011

Are you concerned about your child’s speech, language and/or reading skills development?Join our 6-week half day program to help enhance speech, language and literacy skills. This program will focus on specific goals for your child based on a speech and language assessment. Once assessed one of our Speech-Language Pathologists will determine whether your child qualifies for this small group program. These programs are overseen by a Speech-Language Pathologist and led by 2 Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDA). One therapist will faciliate the group classroom while a second therapist withdraws each student for a half hour individual session.

See below for specific program descriptions:

Read & Say
Saturday 9am to 12 noon

The Read & Say program was designed to encourage literacy development in children who are struggling with reading and may be experiencing learning challenges at school. This program offers small group instruction with a half hour of individual instruction during the 3 hour session.  In order to determine whether your child is eligible for this program, a phonological awareness/literacy assessment by one of our Speech-Language Pathologists must be completed prior to the start of the 6-week program so that specific goals and programming can be established for your child.  The Read & Say program enhances important literacy skills in a positive, fun, interactive environment.

Program Features Include:
*  One half hour of one-to-one speech and language therapy each week of the program
*  Intense, small group setting with low child to adult ratio (2-3 children for each adult)
*  Development of your child’s literacy skills
*  Encourage listening, increased attention, and auditory discrimination skills.
*  Enhance auditory memory and sequencing skills which are critical for word attack
strategies in reading
*  Increase performance in reading, writing and spelling
*  Encourage articulation, language, fluency and other speech and language delays and
challenges
*  Daily progress updates and notes, as well as a final written summary report provided
at the end of the 6 week program

This program can be covered by extended health insurance plans.

Talk & Say
Saturday 1pm to 4pm

The Talk & Say program offers a unique half day speech and language approach for children who are experiencing speech, language and/or social skills delays.  During the 3 hour program, your child will be engaged in many activities, crafts, songs, games and preparation of snacks in order to facilitate speech, language and listening skills.

Younger children (3-5 year olds) will focus on speech sound development, oral motor skills, concept development, print awareness, early phonological awareness skills (i.e., rhyming, sound identification), receptive (listening and understanding) and expressive language skills by way of structured small group activites such as circle time, cooperative games, show and tell and crafts.

Older children (6-8 year olds) will focus on oral formulation of language, writing and spelling skills, advanced phonemic awareness (sound manipulation, sound segmentation and blending), reading comprehension as well as more advanced receptive (listening) and expressive language skills.  Creative crafts, activities and games will be used to enhance the abovementioned skills.

Program Features Include:
*  One half hour of one-to-one speech and language therapy each week of the program
*  Integration of speech and language strategies into all aspects of the 3 hour program
*  Intense, small group setting with low child to adult ratio (2-3 children for each adult)
*  Specific social skills are addressed with your child
*  Student-specific goals addressing speech, language and listening
*  Development of your child’s literacy skills
*  Daily progress updates and notes, as well as a final written summary report provided
at the end of the 6 week program.
